About

Hot Swing in the spirit of Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli

Call it Gypsy jazz, hot swing, or jazz manouche... Swing Noire brings the unmistakable energy of Django and Stéphane into the present day. Their music channels the sound of 1930s Paris... that smoky, kinetic mix of jazz, blues, and Gypsy fire... with their own distinct edge.

As Vermont’s longest-running Hot Club–style acoustic quartet, Swing Noire has been captivating audiences for years with music that’s as soulful as it is spontaneous. Every set swings between the lightning-fast precision of Django’s solos and the aching lyricism of Grappelli’s violin, reminding listeners why this music has never gone out of style.

About the band

Swing Noire features violinist David Gusakov, twin brothers Rob and Jim McCuen on guitar and double bass, and Jared Volpe on rhythm guitar. Together, they carry forward the Hot Club tradition with warmth, humor, and an unmistakable groove... four players united by a shared obsession with the sound and spirit of swing.

The Repertoire

Django Reinhardt was not only a virtuosic guitarist but also a prolific composer and arranger whose influence can still be heard worldwide. His spirit lives on in the modern masters... The Rosenberg Trio, Biréli Lagrène, Angelo Debarre, Fapy Lafertin, and so many others... as well as in bands like ours who continue to explore and reinterpret his music night after night.

Swing Noire’s repertoire spans the full landscape of Hot Club swing: from lightning tempos and playful waltzes to soulful ballads and smoky blues. You might hear favorites like “Minor Swing,” “Nuages,” “Douce Ambiance,” “I’ll See You in My Dreams,” or “All of Me,” alongside lesser-known gems and the occasional original tune inspired by the same lineage.

Whether it’s a festival stage, a cozy café, or a packed dance floor, Swing Noire invites listeners into a world where the lines between past and present blur... and everything swings.
